Torino. Conferenza sull’accessibilità di testi contenenti formule
Martedì 5 luglio alle 11,30 nell’Aula C del Dipartimento di Matematica dell’Università di Torino (Via Carlo Alberto 10) il prof. Jonathan Godfrey della Massey University (Nuova Zelanda) terrà una conferenza dal titolo Let’s Use R Now
Abstract: Let’s Use R Now started life as a manual to accompany a textbook for my sighted students to print out. I chose the title for its acronym LURN because I wanted chapter and section headings to be task-oriented. e.g. LURN to make simple graphs etc. LURN is now an e-book that is easily updated as I add content, is ready for translation, and is now more of an ethos than just a book. It can be edited to offer content specifically targeted towards the blind audience I serve, without interfering with the way a sighted person will read it. Development of LURN has incorporated many ideas that will ultimately improve the accessibility to the textbook material (including mathematical content) and show how statistical content can be made accessible to a blind person.

Il prof. Godfrey è un professore di statistica (non vedente) che ha sviluppato dei plug-in per il software R (molto usato in statistica) che rendono accessibili a chi non vede grafici, istogrammi e tabelle. In più, è un’autorità mondiale nel settore dell’accessibilità di testi contenenti formule.
